At St. Berteline’s, we aim to equip students with a uniquely powerful set of tools to interact successfully with an increasingly computer dominated world. We provide our pupils with the skills to participate effectively and safely in the digital world, both in school and at home and celebrate the positive effects that social media can have. We understand that technology can cause negative issues both in and outside of the classroom and believe that the one of the best tools we have is to educate our pupils that there are choices online. We also firmly believe in the importance of delivering a high-quality E-Safety curriculum, alongside the core values of the 3 Computing stands
(Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy). E-safety is embedded throughout the Computing curriculum and supports and consolidates the strong presence of E-safety in other areas of school life, such as through assemblies and PSHE lessons. As technology develops, so does the need for a better understanding of how to use it in a responsible manner. The education of E-safety is therefore essential to ensure children are equipped with the skills to recognise risks online, to be critically aware of the materials and content they access online, along with guidance on how to accurately validate information accessed via the internet.
